For jet-setting gay and lesbian travelers the world over, Manuel Antonio has a reputation as something of a dream destination. Homosexuality has been decriminalized in Costa Rica since the s — a rarity in all-too-often machismo-fueled, conservative Central America — and a well-established gay scene blossomed in Manuel Antonio soon after. It's not hard to understand why. Not only is the area stunningly beautiful but it has also long attracted liberal-minded individuals, creating a burgeoning artist community and a sophisticated restaurant scene. Check out www.
Gay Hotel Villa Roca $96 ($̶2̶1̶4̶). Manuel Antonio Hotel Deals & Reviews - KAYAK
The rooms are simple and clean and we had a great terrace with view of the sea. We have come to Villa Roca for years, and I always was meant to write a review. But never got round to it. So here we go! The hotel is made up of a series of rooms each I believe with their own balcony, set in a wonderful tropical garden on a steep slope. In the last two years things have been getting a little more exciting from the gardening perspective: you will find a number of native orchids that have germinated and spread on some of the palm trees, if you know what to look for.
Great place with amazing friendly atmosphere! Beautiful view from the pool and delicious breakfast! No screen on the bathroom window.
My partner and I spend our winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for the last ten years and are looking for a new destination. We have heard about Manuel Anonio, Costa Rica and wondered what it is like there for two gay men late 50s. We are not big on night life but do like local restaurants and the beach. We prefer to stay in a condo near the beach, within walking distance of shops, groceries, restaurants, etc so that a rental car is not necessary which is what we love about Puerto Vallarta.
